A quote from the artist Bernard Piga: "Painting is a friend that has given me a real life."
Born in 1964 in Montélimar, Pascal began working at 16 years of age. Driven by his passion for art, he made his first exhibitions in parallel. Then "because painting cannot be shared," he decided to open his studio - gallery in the Gard. There he tried many techniques, from watercolour to lithography, and even India ink, forming and satisfying his artistic curiosity. Sticking to academic drawing at first, Pascal then experimented for a long time with abstraction.
After seven years, he left his workshop to paint in peace at home. Once again, his curiosity led him to explore new horizons, but this time it was through travelling that the artist will satisfy his thirst for discovery. A great observer of the human condition, he was witness to cruelty and death as well as happiness and life. Pascal lived in Mexico for five years where he participated in numerous exhibitions and definitively abandoned abstraction for figuration. Back in France, he would never leave his characters again.
Pascal's painting, described as "humanist expressionism", is above all "human painting." Borrowed from an "existential poetry", it reflects man in all that he is. Painted on backgrounds of cold sobriety, his motionless and isolated characters, with expressionless faces, show great solitude, a symbol of the individualism of our time. The shadows left deliberately by the artist make his paintings a mirror in which everyone is free to tell his own story and set the tone.
Brimming with creative energy, the artist constantly has several paintings in progress. Having today made the choice of painting with oils, he enjoys the time this technique leaves him to observe and correct almost at will the evolution of his work.
